Meet Me More Than Half Way: Emotional Competence in Conversation Using AAC

Typically developing children learn about emotion through interactions with parents, caretakers, and peers. Children who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) have a difficult time talking about emotions. This article discusses the importance of emotional competence in interaction and to challenge those of us who work with children who use AAC to consider the emotional aspects of communication when designing and implementing interventions.
